I received the following information from Bill Calvert, Regional Director. We all need to be aware!
The following information and funding is coming out of Grant Money that IDOT received from the federal government.
Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Grant Project Number 10-22-01
Project Description
This task provides funds for Tazewell County Sheriff's Department and Evanston Police Department to conduct an enforcement campaign to reduce behavior that leads to crashes and fatalities and to improve safety. Rockford and Evanston Police Departments will focus on high-speed corridors with officers where there is high-activity with motorcycles, set up safety check zones specifically for motorcycles to verify proper eye protection and motorcycle equipment requirements as well as encourage use of protective equipment. $23,685
These stops are only a small portion of what grant money is going for. Other grants are covering more and more stops. Again, please stress how important having an M class license and insurance is to everyone you meet or teach.

Hi Everyone,
As some of you know at the seminar I talked about the 23 counties that will be targeted with increased patrols for compliance (Illegal pipes, bars etc.), dui, and insurance this year are as follows:
Winnebago, McHenry, Lake, DeKalb, Kane, Cook, DuPage, Will, Kankakee, LaSalle, Whiteside, Rock Island, Peoria, Tazewell, McLean, Champaign, Vermillion, Macon, Sangamon, Adams, Madison, St.Clair and Williamson.
The reason for the increase is crashes! These are the counties in Illinois that have the highest crash data not just for motorcycles but for accidents in general. If you have any questions please let me know.
As part of the 2010 motorcycle safety program here are a few interesting notes for us: Pg.23
Messages will specifically stay focused on driver's awareness of motorcyclists and riding while impaired on our roadways.
Selective enforcement of motorcycle-related laws and equipment requirements.
They are really going to be taking these issues seriously, so please tell everyone you know at make sure they are legal, not to drink and ride, make sure they have their license with their M class and insurance card on them at all times.
